Private Investigations; Visual Journaling workbook by Juliana Coles
Private Investigations; Visual Journaling workbook by Juliana Coles
Each Workbook is folded and stapled, black and white xerox on paper, with paper covers. Some booklets have cardstock covers with colored paper pages. Where indicated, covers, and covers only, are in full color. I am selling a process, not a product. The workbooks are not the "thing" but rather house a virtual workshop using the process I developed in 1992. The real "thing" is your own expression guided by these assignments. The following is a description of the original live workshop to give you an idea of what's in your workbook to jumpstart your creativity! Each booklet includes a supply list, how to choose a book, what is a visual journal, insights into my philosophy and 5-6 detailed theme-based assignments that layer mixed media with journal writing for the ultimate in expression!
“Private Investigations” Visual Journalling w/ Juliana Coles
You are in grave danger! A Murder has been Committed; there has been a Loss of Soul. Not for the Faint of Heart. Act natural, and keep reading…
What should happen if our journals fell into unscrupulous hands? I know, let’s disguise it; we’ll change the names and events to protect the not-so-innocent by “altering” our story into a detective novel! It will be a Visual Journal disguised as a ‘whodunit.’ This class will involve clues, dossiers and intrigue through journal writing exercises utilizing third person accounts such as eyewitnesses at the scene of the crime. We’ll alter vintage crime/mystery novels with characters like Inspector Poirot and Miss Marple. We’ll revisit Death on the Nile or comedy like “Murder by death” and “Clue.” Think ‘The Thin Man,’ ‘Inspector Sherlock Holmes,’ ‘Murder She Wrote’ and ‘Nancy Drew’ as we attempt to solve this caper and act as our own witness. We’ll create headlines and exciting pages. We’ll come up with our specific investigation in class through various journaling exercises designed to probe the interior. Be prepared to do some inner detective work and self-sleuthing. Consider old movie posters, the Orient Express, North by Northwest, Tony Hillerman desert images as ephemeral evidence. This is no open and shut case, so you will not leave class with a finished product but rather begin the process of this exciting new Visual Journaling format that puts a twist on combining journal writing with art making by describing it in third person in an altered book.
As Chief Inspector, I’ll guide you every step of the way.
